SYNOPSIS
Mortimer Brewster, a drama critic, falls for girl-next-door Elaine Harper and they tie the knot on Halloween. When the newlyweds return to their respective family homes to deliver the news, Mortimer finds a corpse hidden in the window seat. With his eccentric aunts, disturbed uncle, and homicidal brother, he starts to realize that his family is even crazier than he thought.
CHARACTERS
ABBY BREWSTER (late 60’s) – A darling lady in her late sixties or early seventies who poisons lonely, elderly men. She is Martha’s sister, and aunt to Teddy, Jonathan and Mortimer.
MARTHA BREWSTER(late 60’s) – A sweet elderly woman with Victorian charm who poisons lonely, elderly men. She is Abby’s sister, and aunt to Teddy, Jonathan and Mortimer.
MORTIMER BREWSTER (30’s-40’s) – Nephew of Abby and Martha. He is a drama critic who is engaged to Elaine. A good-hearted cynic who is about to have his world turned upside down.
JONATHAN BREWSTER (40’s) – Nephew of Abby and Martha. He is a psychopath who has numerous murders to his credit and no scruples whatsoever. A bit oversensitive to his “new” appearance.
DR. EINSTEIN (late 40’s) – A plastic surgeon and an alchoholic. He has changed Jonathan’s face three times, with his most recent work resulting in a Boris Karloff resemblance.
TEDDY BREWSTER (40-50) – Nephew of Abby and Martha. He thinks he is Teddy Roosevelt.
ELAINE HARPER (Mid 20’s-30’s) – Mortimer’s fiancée. She is the daughter of the Reverend Dr. Harper. She is surprisingly wise in the ways of the world for a minister’s daughter.
REV. DR. HARPER (50’s) – Minister and father of Elaine. A bit pompous and protective, very ministerial in his manner.
OFFICER O’HARA (mid-30’s) – A police officer and a would-be playwright who pesters Mortimer to read his play.
OFFICER BROPHY (mid-30’s) – A flatfoot Brooklyn cop with the usual charm of a police officer.
OFFICER KLEIN (mid-30’s) – A good-hearted cop.
LIEUTENANT ROONEY (40’s) – A tough and dominating police officer.
MR. WITHERSPOON (late 50’s- early 60’s) – Superintendent of Happy Dale Sanitarium.
MR. GIBBS (late 60’s) – A man who wishes to rent a room from the Brewster sisters.
