The Yardley Players will soon be holding auditions for their July production of Willy Wonka. Here are all the audition details.

KelseyExtra: The Kelsey Awards Set to Return August 20, 2016

AUDITION DATES

  • Sunday, March 20 from 12pm-5pm
  • Monday, March 21 from 6:30pm-10pm
  • CALLBACKS: Wednesday, March 23 (if needed)

AUDITION LOCATION

  • Mercer County Community College – West Windsor Campus – CM Building

  • There will be a daycare/camp performance on Friday, July 8th at 10am

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Please prepare a song from the show or in the style of the show.
  • Be ready to participate in a group dance audition, as well as readings from the script.
  • Please download the audition form HERE. Bring this to the auditions with you, along with a recent picture and resume.

ABOUT REHEARSALS

  • Show will begin rehearsals in April.
  • Rehearsals will be on Mondays and Wednesdays from 7pm-9:30pm, and Sundays from 12pm-4pm.
  • Not everyone will be required to attend all rehearsals.

SYNOPSIS

The delicious adventures experienced by Charlie Bucket on his visit to Willy Wonka’s mysterious chocolate factory light up the stage in this captivating adaptation of Roald Dahl’s fantastical tale. Featuring the enchanting songs from the 1971 film starring Gene Wilder and new songs by Leslie Bricusse (Jekyll & Hyde, Doctor Dolittle) and Anthony Newley, Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka is a scrumdidilyumptious musical guaranteed to delight everyone’s sweet tooth.

CASTING

  • Willy Wonka- an enigmatic character; mysterious and mischievous but also charismatic.  Male, 25 – 45 yrs old
  • Charlie Bucket – a young poor boy with endless optimism, the emotional heart and soul of the musical.  Male, 8-12 yrs old
  • Grandpa Joe- caring, patient and sweet; always reminds Charlie to remain cheerful.  Male, 55+ yrs old
  • Mr. Bucket- Charlie’s father.  Male, 30 – 45 yrs old
  • Mrs. Bucket – Chalrie’s mother.  Female, 30-45 yrs old
  • Grandmas Josephine and Georgina -Charlie’s grandmothers.  Female, 55+ yrs old
  • Grandpa Geroge- Charlie’s other grandfather. Male, 55+ yrs old
  • Phineous Trout -Reporter who announces the winners of the Golden Ticket contest throughout the show.  Male or Female, 25-45 yrs old
  • Augustus Gloop- the overachieving eater who represents the evils of eating too much.  Male, 8-12 yrs old
  • Mrs. Gloop- Augustus’ mother. Female, 30 – 45 yrs old
  • Mike Teavee- young boy who is addicted to video games, the Internet and any other mindnumbing technological device. Mike is bratty, loud and obnoxious. He does not know the word “no,” 8-12 yrs old
  • Ms. Teavee- a take on all television moms of the distant past. Think June Cleaver (Leave it to Beaver) or Marion Cunningham (Happy Days) or even Carol Brady (The Brady Bunch). She’s perfectly put together and a bit vacant. Female, 30 – 45 yrs old
  • Violet Beauregarde- Gum chewer extraordinaire; middle-class brat. Female, 8-12 yrs old
  • Mrs. Beauregarde- Violet’s mother; a teacher of geography and has invested a great deal of hard-earned money on therapy for her orally fixated daughter, with less than stellar results. Female, 30-45 yrs old
  • Veruca Salt- the wealthy, class-conscious, spoiled brat.  Female, 8-12 yrs old
  • Mr. Salt – Veruca’s father who’s solution to most problems is to buy his way out. He is upper class. Male, 30-45 yrs old
  • James, Matilda, Sophie, Danny and Alfie- Children from Charlie’s town. Male and female roles, 8-12 yrs

In addition to the above mentioned named characters, an ensemble of men, women and children are needed to be townspeople, cooks, and Oompa Loompas.
