The Gloves Come Off in “God of Carnage”

It’s a comedy of manners – without the manners! PinnWorth Productions presents God of Carnage, a rock ’em, sock ’em good time at The Kelsey Theatre. Performances include Fridays, Feb. 3 and 10 at 8 p.m.; Saturdays, Feb. 4 and 11 at 8 p.m.; and Sundays, Feb. 5 and 12 at 2 p.m.

A playground altercation between two 11-year-old boys brings their parents together to resolve the matter. At first, diplomatic niceties are observed, but as the meeting wears on, and the rum starts to flow, tensions emerge and the gloves come off, leaving the couples with more than just their principles in tatters.Audiences will laugh and cringe at this internationally acclaimed comedy that takes you into the most dangerous place on Earth – Parenthood.

Starring in this four-character romp are the hosting couple, Roman Sohor of Old Bridge as Michael Novak and Cat Miller of Bristol, Pa., as Veronica Novak, and the visiting couple, Kyrus Keenan Westcott of Hamilton as Alan Raleigh and Kyla Donnelly of Levittown, Pa., as Annette Raleigh.

“Playwright Yasmina Reza’s scathing show elevates – or maybe lowers – parental oversight to places it should never go,” says director LouJ Stalsworth. “I respond to this show because dialogue is my favorite part of any show. This one is filled with the sort of smart-mouthed, clever lines that we all wish we had said and only think of after the event. Or if we do think of them in the heat of argument, the manners our mother taught us kick in and we say nothing.”

God of Carnage was nominated for six Tony Awards in 2009; it won three, including Best Play.

Tickets are $18 for adults, $16 for seniors, and $14 for students. (This show is not recommended for children.)  Tickets may be purchased online or by calling the Kelsey Box Office at 609-570-3333. Kelsey Theatre is wheelchair accessible, with free parking available next to the theater.
