Koren, also known as “KZ”, has become one of the most popular faces at The Kelsey Theatre over the past couple of seasons. The popularity doesn’t just stem from her dance performance, but from his energizing choreography and his world class hair and make-up skills.

This year, Koren is nominated in the Outstanding Character Design category for his work on “Miss Saigon”, and the Outstanding Choreography for his work on both “Miss Saigon” and “The Boy From Oz”.

How do you like working at The Kelsey Theatre?

KZ: It’s second home to many of us. Where ever you go, where ever destiny takes you, you always come or visit home. The tight-knit Kelsey community is like family, and that is of great importance and value to me.

What is your favorite Kelsey Theatre memory?

KZ: So much amazing memories! All treasured, all cherished! But probably top on my current list was when the helicopter in Miss Saigon finally took its first flight, in a theatre that does not have a fly system. Indescribable feeling, indeed! However, the entire hoist frame and support system had to be completely replaced, but thats a whole different kind of memory, and a whole Pink Drink pairing altogether!

What is your most embarrassing moment on or off stage that’s theater-related?

KZ: Kelsey? Or non-Kelsey? Ah heck I’ll share a few. Kelsey: During ‘A Chorus Line’ (I played Larry), when I led the dancers to do the tap combination -mind, you I have done a gahzillion versions of this show before- I did a completely different combination, which was from a past production. The cast was looking at me like… what the heck was that??

Non Kelsey: I have great history of falling off stage. I fell in the orchestra pit that hydraulically lowered 2-stories down during the finale number when I was performing on a cruise ship. And… I fell into the gigantic aquarium filled with synchronized swimming mermaids as it rises from the stage floor during a scene transition, while working in Vegas. All gracefully, of course! Ask me the full story at another time, It’s super hilarious!

If there’s one person at The Kelsey Theatre you’ve been wanting to work with, but never had the opportunity, who is it and why?

KZ: Oh gosh… I pretty much know everyone at the Kelsey, and at some point, at some degree… have worked, chatted, shared ideas, etc. with them. And I’d love to work with all of them, again and again!

What is your dream show that you’d like to work on?

KZ: Far too many to mention. But I will list 5, in no particular order: Allegiance, Newsies, SideShow, Tarzan, Will Rogers Follies.

Are you excited for The Kelsey Awards on Saturday, August 19th?!

KZ: Ecstatic!! I always look forward to it yearly. Its like a huge ‘family reunion’ to me, without bringing green bean casserole. hahaha

A special message to all of the people who voted for you and made you a nominee…

KZ: A Stage-Full of THANKS to everyone who voted. And for acknowledging everyone’s hard work (not just mine) in Theatre. Much love, pink drinks, and fan kicks!
