EXTRA EXTRA – The 2017 Kelsey Awards – Complete List of Nominees
Michael has been a prominent member of The Kelsey Theatre community for years now, and he is certainly no stranger to The Kelsey Awards, having won a Kelsey Award for his work on “Cats”. This year, this talented performer is recognized for his fantastic work as John in “Miss Saigon”.
How do you like working at The Kelsey Theatre?
MICHAEL: I truly love doing shows at Kelsey because of the quality of the productions I’ve been a part of, but also because of the close friendships that I have developed there. Some of those friends have become as close as family to me.
What is your favorite Kelsey Theatre memory?
MICHAEL: The final performance of “Les Miz” was incredibly emotional for our cast. Singing the finale with tears in our eyes is something I’ll never forget. And then after bows we sang One Day More as an encore, which was the very first song we learned at our first rehearsal.
What is your most embarrassing moment on or off stage that’s theater-related?
MICHAEL: Not at Kelsey, but I was Finch in “How to Succeed…” and there was one scene towards the end of the show that I would blank… every single performance… as to what my line was. That silence felt like an hour as I kept thinking, “Say something!” My scene partner was prepared the second night to cover, but that first night was SCARY! Oops!
If there’s one person at The Kelsey Theatre you’ve been wanting to work with, but never had the opportunity, who is it and why?
MICHAEL: I’d love to work with Kyrus as my director. We almost had the chance a few seasons ago, but I had to leave the production early on. He always does amazing productions so I’d love to be a part of one of his shows.
What is your dream show that you’d like to work on?
MICHAEL: I’d love to be in “On The Town” or “Chicago”. Come on Kelsey community… someone make one or both of them happen… Please?!?
Are you excited for The Kelsey Awards on Saturday, August 19th?!
MICHAEL: Absolutely! Such a fun night with friends to celebrate theater.
A special message to all of the people who voted for you and made you a nominee…
MICHAEL: Thank you so much to everyone who supported me, all of the other nominees, and the Kelsey Theatre in general with your votes. That support is what keeps us performing and wanting to bring better theater to our community.
